Hi, Carmel. I originally answered this in my box and realized that you may not even know that it is there so this was a response to your question. I feel fortunate that the students who joing my class have many options and have chosen to be there. We have fully online (I am not involved in this program but much of it appears to be correspondence paperwork shifted to the online program). We have an offline program which I have been very involved in for the last 8 years. It is labour intensive. The program I am just starting this year began last year at younger grades and I am starting it at a high school level. The students actually still do much of their work offline but twice a week we meet online to do a technology/collaborative unit. I know that we use Elluminate Live for our meetings. The teachers who have begun this at the other grades bring everything into Elluminate: I need to learn to put youtube, wikis and blogs onto the Elluminate space. Last year we did a class on using google earth on Elluminate. My students will be required to collaborate but they know this before they join the class and some (the class is a pilot and will be small this year) have chosen it for this very purpose. I hope that I can keep the enthusiasm up on this - so far the students are quite keen to be a part of it. If you have any helpful ideas I would love them. I am doing a unit on Globalization: What is it and what is a Global citizen. If there ever is an opportunity for a class you teach to connect with a class I teach it would fit right into my study topic for this year. Just a thought!!!
